Jazz Ensemble 2014

Jazz EnsembleMILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Nov. 11, 2014) — The Milligan College Jazz Ensemble will feature Michael Bublé’s trumpeter, Justin Ray, in concert on Monday, Nov. 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the Mary B. Martin Auditorium of Seeger Chapel.

“We are very fortunate to have the fantastic Justin Ray with us since he is between tour dates from the Netherlands to the United Kingdom with Bublé’s band,” said Rick Simerly, associate professor of music

Ray’s reputation as a fiery and compelling trumpet soloist began during his time at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. He completed his master’s degree at the University of Southern California, where he became one of the most in-demand trumpeters in the region, performing with jazz legends such as Dave Weckl, Peter Erskine, Kurt Elling, Bill Cunliffe and others.

In 2003, he accepted an offer from Bublé, a Warner Bros. recording artist, to join his band. Ray not only served as an instrumentalist for the famous musician, but also as a composer and arranger.

Since his time with Bublé, Ray has made numerous television appearances including performances on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and “Saturday Night Live.” He also has toured 45 countries, appeared on Grammy-winning recordings and performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world such as Madison Square Garden, the Sydney Opera House and Radio City Music Hall.

Before the star trumpeter appears on stage at Milligan, the 22-piece ensemble, consisting of Milligan students as well as students and adults from throughout the region, will play selections from the libraries of Count Basie, Stan Kenton, Charles Mingus, Horace Silver, Sonny Rollins, Cedar Walton and others.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information on Milligan arts events, visit www.milligan.edu/arts.
