Pianist to present recital of classical music


David MayfieldMILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Feb. 11, 2014) — Guest pianist David Mayfield will present a recital at Milligan College on Thursday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. in the Mary B. Martin Auditorium of Seeger Memorial Chapel. The recital is free and open to the public.

Mayfield received his Master of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Tennessee (Knoxville, Tenn.) in 2011, where he also taught class piano and applied piano. During his time at the University of Tennessee, he received training in both the Suzuki method and traditional methods of teaching under Fay Adams. He also earned his Bachelor of Arts in Piano from Lee University (Cleveland, Tenn.).

Throughout his music career, Mayfield has performed in master classes with Adam Golka, Juyong Kang, Ning An and Gloria Chien.

He has spent the past year working with Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) to help fight high rates of poverty in his community. During this time, he performed with a local community group known as the Plateau Player and began crafting a concert series to bring classical performances to a rural area of Tennessee.

His recital will feature “French Suite No. 5 in G Major, BWV 816”by J. S. Bach, “Ballade No. 2 in F Major, Op. 38” by Frederic Chopin, “ Les jeux d’eaux à la Villa d’Este” by Franz Liszt and “Sonata No. 30 in E Major, Op. 109” by Ludwig van Beethoven.
