Milligan to host music workshop


MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Sept. 6, 2013) — The Milligan College music area will present its second annual professional development workshop for music educators and church musicians on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Milligan’s Seeger Memorial Chapel.

Presenting at the workshop will be Sandy Holland, the artistic director of the Charlotte Children’s Choir in North Carolina, as well as Dr. Charlotte Anderson, Noah DeLong, Douglas Grove-DeJarnett and Dr. David Runner of the Milligan music faculty.

Guest clinician Holland is the founding director of the “Children’s Celebration in Song” summer program for 150 children in the greater Charlotte area, and co-founder of the Annual Piedmont Invitational Children’s Choir Festival for children’s choirs in North Carolina. Under her direction, the Charlotte Children’s Choir has appeared at Carnegie Hall, on the A&E television special “Judy Collins Christmas at Biltmore,” with the Charlotte Symphony and the Opera Carolina, and was featured in 2006 on NPR’s “From the Top.”

Holland will present two sessions on developing artistic singing. Other workshop topics will include working with church youth choirs, teaching sight-singing and an introduction to the Alexander Technique.
