Milligan to offer five programs at Kingsport Center for Higher Education

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (May 20, 2013) — Milligan College announced today that it will partner with the Kingsport Center for Higher Education (KCHE) to offer five programs at their facility beginning in spring 2014.

The Milligan programs to be offered at the KCHE facility, located at 300 West Market Street in Kingsport, include undergraduate, graduate and executive certificate programs in business administration/operations management; an RN-BSN (nursing program); and an undergraduate degree program in early childhood education.

Students enrolled in these programs will be able to complete their coursework at KCHE, a $12 million, 54,000-square-foot facility that combines the resources of several regional colleges and universities under one roof.

“We are pleased to partner with KCHE to offer programs that are in demand and beneficial for the needs of our region,” said Milligan President Dr. Bill Greer. “The classes we will offer at KCHE will be taught by our highly regarded faculty who are caring and respected experts in their fields. Professionals in the Kingsport area now will have the opportunity to experience the Milligan community closer to home.”

Milligan will offer the following fully accredited programs:

The adult degree completion program (ADCP) in business administration with an emphasis in operations management—Exceptionally suited for the industrial and business climate of Kingsport and the surrounding area, this 16-month degree completion program is designed for adults who have completed about two years of college and have at least two years of full-time work experience. The 44 semester hours of credit will be delivered in a face-to-face format in accelerated evening classes that meet one night per week for five weeks beginning in February 2014.

The ADCP in child and youth development (early childhood education)—In 18-23 months students can complete the Child and Youth Development major, and even opt to certify to teach PreK-3 with an additional semester of full-time student teaching. The didactic coursework for the degree consists of face-to-face classes with some being broadcast from the Milligan campus to KCHE via ITV. These accelerated evening classes will meet one night per week for four to six weeks beginning in January 2014.

ADCP in RN-BSN (nursing)—Milligan’s newest degree completion program will begin in January 2014 and is designed for the practicing RN who desires to complete a bachelor of science in nursing degree. The 57 semester hours of credit will be delivered in a hybrid format, including online and face-to-face courses.

Master of Business Administration (MBA)—This 14-month graduate degree program consists of 32 semester hours of credit. It will be delivered in a hybrid format in accelerated classes that last from five to eight weeks. Classes meet on Saturdays once a month, complemented by several weeks of on-going discussion, class participation and other assignments, all facilitated by faculty using Internet-based resources. Milligan’s MBA offers tracks in leadership, healthcare management and operations management. The operations management track will begin at KCHE in March 2014.

MBA executive certificate—The executive certificate in operations management consists of nine semester hours of credit. Like other MBA courses, this certificate track will be delivered in a hybrid format in accelerated classes that last five weeks. Each class will include an eight-hour, face-to-face meeting on a Saturday, and the remainder of the coursework will be completed online. The executive certificate in operations management will be offered at KCHE beginning in fall 2014.

Jennifer Greenwell, a Milligan alumna who has served the college in admissions, marketing and community relations roles since 2006, will serve as the on-site coordinator for KCHE beginning June 1. The Milligan office at KCHE will open in July.
