It’s ‘Terrific Tuesday’ at Milligan

Terrific Tuesday

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (April 9, 2013) — It is “Terrific Tuesday” at Milligan College. Classes for traditional undergraduates have been canceled today, April 9, and a variety of social activities and games have been planned for the college’s annual surprise holiday.

This spring holiday for the Milligan community is a college tradition dating back to 1969. Known as “Wonderful Wednesday,” the holiday does not always fall on a Wednesday. A veil of secrecy surrounds the exact date and theme of the surprise holiday each year. Activities are planned by Milligan’s Campus Activities Board.

This year’s theme is “Coney Island.” Activities begin with a Boardwalk Brunch at 10 a.m. in McCormick Dining Center, followed by the annual faculty hunt at 11:30 a.m.

Various Coney Island attractions are planned throughout campus from noon to 4 p.m., including a zip line across Derthick Lawn, an animal exhibit, laser tag and a “Gladiator Knock Out” event on the lawn of the Gregory Center for the Liberal Arts. Another highlight of the day will be the traditional waterslide near Buffalo Creek. Vendors will be serving special treats throughout the day including fried doughnuts and “snow conies.”

There also will be several competitive events throughout the afternoon including volleyball dodge ball and an ultimate Frisbee intramural competition.

The day concludes with “A Taste of Coney Island Café” from 5-7 p.m. in the McCormick Dining Center and a “screen on the green” movie behind Milligan’s Gregory Center at 8:30 p.m.
