Mezzo-soprano to perform at Milligan


Dr. Loralee SongerMILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (March 28, 2013) — Mezzo-soprano Dr. Loralee Songer will present a guest voice recital at Milligan College on Saturday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m., in the Mary B. Martin Auditorium of Seeger Memorial Chapel.  Her recital, titled “A Musical Celebration of Women Poets,”  will feature works with poetry written by American women.

In addition to her voice recital, Songer will serve as the guest clinician for a voice master class on Saturday, April 13, from 2 to 4 p.m., also in the Mary B Martin Auditorium. During this event, the Milligan voice students of Dr. Charlotte Anderson and Noah DeLong will perform for and receive comments from Songer.

Both events are free and open to the public.

Songer has earned a reputation as an outstanding performer on the stage in concert and operatic settings. A full-time voice faculty member at Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn., Songer teaches applied voice and conducting and is the director of the women’s ensemble, Ladies of Lee.

She holds the doctor of arts and master of music degrees in vocal performance from Ball State University (Muncie, Ind.) and a bachelor of music degree from Taylor University (Upland, Ind.).

Songer has performed in numerous concerts during the past several years, including Handel’s “Messiah” with the Marion Philharmonic. Recent performances include “St. John Passion” with the Chattanooga Bach Choir and Orchestra, and Beethoven’s “Mass in C” with the Lee University Orchestra.
