Milligan to host a night of multicultural fashion and music

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (March 22, 2013) — Milligan College’s Multicultural Affairs (MCA) club will host its second annual fashion show on Friday, April 12, at 6:30 p.m. on Milligan’s Derthick Lawn.

Once again, Milligan students will use their passion for fashion to raise money for a good cause, showcase student and local talents, and expand diversity in the Tri-Cities community. The show will feature students and independent designers, as well as student models and performers from Milligan. East Tennessee State University students also will participate as guest models and performers.

Admission is $3 for the public. Milligan faculty and staff, as well as Milligan and ETSU students are admitted free. Proceeds from ticket sales and donations will benefit a Milligan family in need.

Milligan’s MCA held its first fashion show in 2008. Last year, senior Elizabeth ONeill, took interest in the show and decided to make it an annual production. Last year’s show focused on current clothing inspired by patterns and designs from the four major parts of the world. The clothing was borrowed from local stores and money was raised to support the charity Help for Haiti.

This year’s show will take a different angle with student and independent designers. Organizers also are opening the show to the community this year. Seven designers will showcase their goods, including four student designers from Milligan and three designers from the Tri-Cities and Detroit.

Student designers are creating DIY “looks for less” that portray spring/summer fashion. Themes range from revamped street style, modern 1940s looks, summer attire and colorful rock. The local and Detroit designers will exhibit their spring lines.

There will be refreshments and pictures with the models and designers following the show. Designer items also will be available for sale after the show.

In case of rain, the fashion show will be moved to the Milligan College McCormick Dining center at 8:30 p.m.
