Appalachian Trail hiker to speak at Milligan


Jennifer Pharr DavisMILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Feb. 14, 2013)—Appalachian Trail hiker Jennifer Pharr Davis will speak at Milligan College on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 11 a.m. in the Mary B. Martin Auditorium of Seeger Memorial Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.

Davis will speak about her adventures on the Appalachian Trail, which include lightning strikes, stalkers and world records.

Davis has hiked more than 11,000 miles of long-distance trails on six continents and currently holds endurance records on three trails. In 2011, she became the first female to claim the overall record on the Appalachian Trail by finishing the 2,181-mile journey in 46 days, 11 hours and 20 minutes—an average of nearly 47 miles per day.

She was named Ultrarunning Magazine’s top female performance athlete of 2011 and a National Geographic Adventurer of the year for 2012. She also has authored four books including her coming-of-age hiking memoir, “Becoming Odyssa.”

Davis is the owner and founder of Blue Ridge Hiking Co. She and her guides help make the trails in Western North Carolina accessible to novice hikers and experienced backpackers.
