Milligan asks region for examples of servant leadership

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Jan. 7, 2013) — Milligan College is looking for examples of Christian leaders in the Tri-Cities who integrate their faith with their profession.

In recent years, the college has recognized doctors, teachers, business leaders and various professionals in the region who exemplify Christian character not only in their church, but also in their career and community. The college is now inviting recommendations for the 2013 “Leaders in Christian Service” program.

“Milligan’s mission is to prepare servant-leaders in a variety of professions,” said Milligan President Dr. Bill Greer. “By recognizing leaders in Christian service from our community, we provide examples to our students and the region of what servant leadership can look like on a daily basis in a variety of careers.”

A complete list of past honorees can be found at www.milligan.edu/LCS.

“Servant leaders live out their faith in every aspect of their life and are strong Christian examples beyond the walls of the church,” said Beth Anderson, director of Milligan’s Institute for Servant Leadership.

Anderson said that the selection committee looks for individuals who display excellence of Christian character; strong Christian example through professional, vocational or volunteer leadership; and evidence of Christian service in the church and community.

Recommendations for the “Leaders in Christian Service” program will be accepted until Feb. 15. The 2013 Leaders in Christian Service will be presented at a special convocation service in the Mary B. Martin Auditorium in Seeger Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, April 2.

The guest speaker will be dentist George Karnes of the TMJ Treatment Clinic in Johnson City, Tenn. Karnes is the founder of the Keystone Dental Clinic, an East Tennessee based nonprofit dental clinic that provides basic dental care to adults 21 or older who meet poverty guidelines.

More information and nomination forms are available at www.milligan.edu/LCS or by calling the Institute for Servant Leadership at 423.461.8316.
